Our Story
Dreamcatcher
is a diverse small farm committed to change. Gandhi wrote that, "you
must be the change you wish to see in the world." Our farm is one
family's assault on industrial food. Our livestock are treated with
respect and given an opportunity to live on grass, take sun baths,
exercise, and play. We feed them with an awareness of their complete
nutritional needs and purchase feed stuff that is locally produced.
We have labored to replant our tree rows and continue to integrate perrenials into the farm. The microbial activity in the soil is given the highest priority. Nothing is added to the soil that is not conducive to the well-being of the earth worms that find a home there.
Healthy
soils equal healthy plants which equals healthy food. Healthy food is
nutrient dense, as opposed to calorie dense, and is essential for the
proper functioning of our immune systems. Our farm is treated as a
living organism that seeks to balance what we take and what we give
back in return to this place that nurtures us.
We have excellent soils – some of the best in the valley – equipment, experience, determination, awe, and humility in the knowledge that we can appreciate and nurture this place but never completely own it. We are its caretakers, and we are inviting others in the community to share in the journey.
